Adding Materials to Your Course
Course materials are the building blocks of your educational content. This guide explains how to upload files, add external links, and organize materials effectively.
Uploading Files
The platform supports various file types to enrich your course content.
Supported File Formats
- Documents: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT
- Images: PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, SVG, WebP
- Presentations: PPT, PPTX
- Archives: ZIP (for bundled content)
File Size Limits
- Maximum file size: 50 MB per file
- Total storage per course: 500 MB
Tip: For large video files, consider uploading them to an external platform (like YouTube or Vimeo) and adding them as external links instead.
Uploading Process
- Navigate to your course in the Instructor Dashboard
- Click "Add Material" or "Upload File"
- Drag and drop files or click to browse
- Add a descriptive title and optional description
- Click "Save" to upload
Adding External Links
External links let you incorporate resources from across the web into your course.
How to Add Links
- In your course editor, click "Add Material"
- Select "External Link" as the material type
- Enter the complete URL (including https://)
- Provide a clear title for the link
- Add an optional description
- Click "Save" to add the link
Important: Always verify that external links are accessible and appropriate for your students. Check links periodically to ensure they remain active.
Organizing Materials
Well-organized materials help students navigate your course efficiently.
Using Modules
- Create modules to group related materials
- Give modules clear, descriptive names
- Arrange modules in logical learning order
- Drag and drop to reorder materials within modules
Best Practices
- Group by topic: Keep related materials together
- Sequential ordering: Arrange materials in the order students should consume them
- Clear naming: Use descriptive titles that indicate content
- Limit module size: 5-10 items per module for optimal navigation
Managing Material Visibility
Control when students can access specific materials.
Visibility Options
- Visible: Students can see and access the material
- Hidden: Material exists but students cannot see it
- Scheduled: Material becomes visible on a specific date
Changing Visibility
- Open the material settings
- Toggle the visibility switch
- For scheduled visibility, set the release date
- Save your changes
Tip: Use hidden materials to prepare content in advance, then reveal it when appropriate for your teaching schedule.
Next Steps
After adding materials, consider creating quizzes to test student comprehension. See Creating Quizzes for detailed instructions.
