Running Live Sessions
Live sessions enable real-time interaction with your students. This guide covers starting, managing, and controlling live teaching sessions.
Starting a Live Session
Before starting a live session, ensure your course is properly prepared.
Prerequisites
- Your course must be in LIVE state
- All materials should be uploaded and organized
- Students should have the course access link
Starting the Session
- Navigate to your course in the Instructor Dashboard
- Verify the course state is set to LIVE
- Open the Live Teaching View
- Share the course link with students
- Monitor the student list as they join
Tip: Send the course link to students before the scheduled start time so they can join promptly.
Real-Time Student Interaction
The live teaching interface provides several tools for engaging with students.
Student Presence
- See a list of all connected students
- Monitor when students join or leave
- Track which materials students are viewing
- Observe quiz completion in real-time
Live Feed
The live feed shows real-time updates from your course:
- Student progress through materials
- Quiz submissions and scores
- Questions or responses from students
- System notifications
Important: The live feed updates automatically. You don't need to refresh the page to see new activity.
Managing the Live Feed
Control what information flows through the live session.
Feed Controls
- Activity Stream: Shows all student actions
- Quiz Results: Displays quiz submissions as they occur
- Progress Updates: Shows when students complete materials
- Filtering: Focus on specific types of activity
Responding to Activity
- Monitor quiz results to identify struggling students
- Address common questions to the entire group
- Provide additional explanation when needed
- Celebrate student achievements
Pausing and Resuming
Sometimes you need to temporarily halt course activity.
When to Pause
- Technical difficulties occur
- You need to address the entire group
- Break periods during long sessions
- Emergency situations
Pausing the Session
- Click the "Pause Course" button in the instructor view
- The course state changes to PAUSED
- Students see a pause overlay
- All real-time updates stop
Note: While paused, students cannot progress to new materials, but their current progress is preserved.
Resuming the Session
- Click "Resume Course" or change state back to LIVE
- Students are notified that the session is active
- Real-time features are restored
- Students can continue from where they stopped
